Buying Modern Outdoor Furniture

There is a wide choice of materials on offer for your modern outdoor furniture:
Aluminum – aluminum is a lightweight, hard wearing metal that is resistant to corrosion, and has a clean silvery finish that is popular in contemporary furniture design. Aluminum is also easy to manipulate and can be cast into many different shapes, which makes it very versatile for furniture design.
Wrought Iron – this is the traditional metal for outdoor furniture and is durable, affordable and malleable. However wrought iron is heavy and cumbersome, and will rust if not treated with care, and has a classic look that may not be suitable for some modern garden designs.
Pine – pine is one of the main woods used for outdoor furniture as it is has an attractive grain and is cheap and resistant to rotting, twisting and warping.
Cedar – this is a more expensive wood, but is also popular for outdoor furniture as it has an attractive grain and color (from deep red through to light amber), which turns a lovely silvery grey over time, and is naturally very resistant to rot and insects.
Teak – this wood is popular for interior furniture, but is also ideal for outdoor use as it is very tough and resistant to decay, and will also protect any metal elements used in the construction (nails, hinges etc) from corrosion.
Wicker – this has long been a popular choice for outdoor seating as it is cheap, comfortable and visually pleasing, although it will need to be stored away during wet weather as the wicker does absorb moisture and is prone to rotting if left in the elements. You can also buy ‘weather wicker’, which is made from a vinyl product, and this is resistant to UV light, rain and extreme temperatures so can be left out outside.

for outside furniture i would prefer wrought iron as they look impressive however like you say will rust and need treating and can be rather heavy if moving them. Safe bet would a nice wood pine set of furniture.
